The HPE C7978A LTO Universal Cleaning Cartridge (commonly called LTX‑CL equivalent) is designed to clean the read/write heads and tape path in all LTO Ultrium drives—from LTO‑1 through LTO‑9, including standalone units and large automated libraries .Each cartridge contains approximately 319 m of precision cleaning media and an embedded memory chip that tracks usage. The drive automatically rejects the cartridge once the cleaning cycle limit (15–50 cycles, drive-dependent) is reached .Proper cleaning reduces errors, enhances drive performance, and extends the longevity of tape drives. The C7978A comes with a 1-year HPE warranty against defects.
